Week 7: Reading Scripture in Chunks
Most of our practices so far have been focused on engaging in smaller portions of scripture. However, a lot of scripture was written as letters, sermons, or singular stories — meant to be read in one sitting. By reading parts of scripture all in one sitting you make space for noticing themes and connections you might not otherwise notice. Don’t worry, if this sounds overwhelming you can listen to the audio on a Bible app on your phone. Allow the words to fill your mind and imagination.
The practice for the week: This week we will read the sermon on the mount in one sitting. You’ll need a good 15-20 minutes to do this. Make sure you pick a time in your week that works to do this.
01 – Silence. Spend 3-5 minutes in silence before God. Feel free to use a breath prayer as you wait in silence.
02 – Read. Read Matthew 5-7 all in one sitting.
03 – Pray. Spend some time responding to what you read. Talk to God about what stood out to you.
