Week 8: Keeping it going
Over the last eight weeks, we’ve engaged scripture in many different ways from Lectio Divina, reading large chunks, study, to memorization. We’ve tried to expose you to some of the best rhythms of reading scripture we know. Some of these may have resonated with you more than others. That’s great! The goal isn’t that you continue on with all of these. I mean, you can if you want to… Rather, we hope that one or two of these practices make it into your regular rhythm of meeting with God in scripture.
The practice for the week: In addition to your regular Bible reading plan, we want to invite you to take one or two of the practices we’ve done so far and add them to your daily or weekly rhythm.
01 – Take Inventory. Take some time to look back over the last two months of practicing the way of life. This inventory will help you see how you’re doing and where there are opportunities for growth.
02 – Choose a practice or two. Maybe you want to practice silence to make more space to be with and hear from God. Or maybe you want to study scripture so you can grow in your understanding of scripture. Or maybe you liked the Lectio Divina practice. Choose whichever practice(s) stood out to you to carry forward with you.
03 – Subtraction first. Before adding this practice to your overloaded schedule, consider what you may need to subtract from your life to make room for God. Many of us long to be with God in a meaningful way and have all the right intentions. We fail not because we are bad, but because we are busy. What needs to go in order to make room for God?
04 – Schedule. Schedule your chosen practice into your rhythm. So far you already have a Bible reading plan in your rhythm. Now take some time and consider where you can prioritize your scripture practice. How can you strategically prioritize your time with God in a way that will set you up for success?
